Antikythera and Archimedes

The Antikythera Mechanism is the material proof that, in the ancient world, the motion of the sky was translated into gears. Tradition connects it to a line of makers that passes through Archimedes and Syracuse.

Themis G. Dallas

Lecturer in the Department of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology. PhD in computational astrophysics; works on cultural astronomy, history of science and archaeoastronomy.

University of Athens

Xenophon Moussas

Astronomer, professor of space physics, among the leading figures in the study of the Antikythera Mechanism. Former director of the Astrophysics Laboratory and of the Observatory of the University of Athens, and deputy head of the Physics Department. Member of the International Astronomical Union.

Uppsala University

Göran Henriksson

Astronomer, PhD at Uppsala in 1983. Developed a program for the accurate computation of ancient solar eclipses back to 4000 BC. In 2009 he identified ten solar eclipses on the Antikythera Mechanism and proposed its calibration at Syracuse.
