Data and method

This page explains how the research published on this site is built and what the labels used on the project pages mean.

The levels of evidence

Levels of evidence

Measured data
  • A value obtained from an instrument or a survey, with declared uncertainty.
Published result
  • A result issued in an editorial venue, with a verifiable reference.
Hypothesis
  • A statement formulated so that it can be tested and, in principle, refuted.
Interpretation
  • A reading of the material that does not follow mechanically from the data.
Anthropological model
  • A comparative structure describing recurrences across traditions, without asserting contact or derivation.
Experiential practice
  • An exercise or a course of practice offered, with effects reported from experience and not from clinical studies.
Product or service
  • Content, a course, a consultancy or an installation offered for payment.

Preregistration

Where the analysis is statistical, criteria and thresholds are fixed before the results are looked at and deposited publicly. This constrains the analysis and makes it verifiable that the threshold was not chosen afterwards.

Data and code

Coordinates, measurements, computation code and figures are published together with the text once a project reaches the state that allows it.

Limits

Limits are stated once, as facts of the problem, in the Verification section of every research page.
